A haar is a cold, damp sea fog that typically occurs on the east coast of Scotland and northern England. It is formed when warm air passes over the cold North Sea, creating thick, often persistent, gray mist that can reduce visibility to almost zero, even in summer.

A CONTRACT WITH THE EARTH (5') for tenor, bass clarinet

The Aztec "contract with the earth" was a belief in a reciprocal, symbiotic relationship between humans and the divine earth goddess Tlaltecuhtli, where human blood sacrifices and rituals were required to feed the earth for fertility, rain, and the continuation of life. This relationship ensured the sustainability of the Fifth Sun—the current era—and deeply rooted itself in a cyclical, cosmic perspective, requiring constant energy exchange to delay destruction.

APEP (6') for cello

Apep is the ancient Egyptian god of chaos, darkness, and destruction. Depictions often show Apep as a giant serpent, sometimes with multiple heads representing the souls it swallowed. As the personification of chaos, Apep sought to plunge the world back into darkness and destroy the sun god Ra.
